Art Direction
for Eat Cake Magazine

Eat Cake is an independent magazine conceived around International Women’s Day. Inspired partly by the cultural mythology surrounding Marie Antoinette’s “let them eat cake”, the publication enters spaces historically associated with women, the kitchen, bathroom, supermarket and other everyday interiors, and looks at the expectations, rituals and contradictions embedded within them.

Through satire, storytelling and visual experimentation, the magazine explores the point where femininity becomes performance and routine becomes ritual. I developed the original concept, creative direction and written content, working alongside a designer and post-production/ publishing collaborator to bring the final publication to life.
